Disapprobation

—David Eisbach

I saw a figure some distance away
She was completely covered in black,
unusual in my neighborhood.
She caught my eye and my disdain.
Her dark shroud showed only
a pretty face of a young woman.
She seemed to glide on the sidewalk.
Then I noticed her skateboard and
I was ashamed.

  1. David, I like the descriptions here. Even though I am aware that the young girl in the poem is in Muslim garb, there is a greater meaning found in the descriptions, a dark and sinister tone that reflects the character’s "disdain." Then there is the skateboard at the end that pretty much breaks down the prejudice.
