Every Year A Peregrine Falcon Nests On Top of City Hall

— Robbie Sugg

The freeway ascent rising
above city
horizon

On the 7th floor
rolling car thunder projects
incessantly upward

and swiftly passing students
intermingling
fractals of birds.

Above city sea
A throatful drone
cradled in mountains

A dusting of snow atop
two peaks if you look
before the afternoon

Air still clear
after yesterday’s rain
how long will the grasses be green
this year?

Redwoods barely rustle on the fringes –
straight tall anchored in
to the alluvial hardness
that washed off those mountains
before the malls and onramps.
