May

— Sandip Bhattacharya

There has been a lot of preparing—
A lot of scrubbing, by rain
An airing of air itself—as if
The guest who is imminent takes pleasure
In a clean house; as if it is important
To put our best foot forward…
The cycle of the Maya may turn too soon but
We might have to contend with joy before that—
The red-branched rhododendron—
Bringing forth, after two years of mere cogitation,
A perfect cluster of flowers—each a trumpet
Heralding change—each magnificently open
To all sorts of possibilities…
