Just This

— Hudson Washburn

Today the Towhees are patient
Taking seeds and water in their turn.
The sun casts its shadows long,
Aspen leaves twist the way they do.

Turning about in space
The Coriolis confirms
This earth continues its path,
Another day passing.

The light on the leaves,
The fall of the seeds,
The pull from the sun,
And me, breathing.

  1. Simple and sublime! A true poet is one who examines and experiences the world with such a keen eye. Amazing how the last word is "breathing" because by the time I get there through the gorgeously succinct imagery, I needed to breathe!
