Farewell To Jeannie (7/19/2012)

— Vicki L. Harvey

The room dark
Smell of stale smoke
Clutter all around

One room way to small
for many to say goodbye.
Tensions run high

No correct way to help
her graduate earth school.

We order pizza as if it is
any normal day, but this
Is not normal and I feel sick.

They wake her up to feed
her pizza and ice cream,
as if food would fix things.

I am frustrated…
They need to let her be.

I tell them to be careful
as she could choke.
Don’t they realize that

now food is not important.
The pizza, ice cream and
jelly beans are not going

to cure the cancer that has
taken her hostage.

I need to escape from what
feels chaotic.
It is not peaceful here

I hug her frail body, kiss
her pale cheek and say
goodbye.

She responds to me quite
clearly…

It is not goodbye.
I will call you.
