On The Rim

— Nick Butterfield

for all the Hand Held Devices:

there are commas and periods, hyphens and crosses to carry.

inside a parenthesis (is why i got up this morning).

i put on my footnotes and addresses and bought a rose

for my first .com and plugged in my i-padyours or mine?

i’ll eat spam for lunch and text you after supper on

my typewriter then change the ribbon, because no one is picking

blackberries anymore.

p.s.

please cc my family and tell them i love them.

  1. This is very clever, Nick! What a subtle, yet powerful indictment of computer technology, how it it can make us impersonal, emotionally distant, and cold. I love the last line: "please cc my family and tell them i love them." Even love has become automated and reduced to digital text.
