The Annual Debutante

The Annual Debutante

— Clysta Seney

The translucent envelope
arrives mid-Spring—
sun slits it open.

And she prepares.
Three sparkling white
sleeves unfurl and arch up.

Deep within
three thin, indigo spires
stay her form

that is finally,
properly,
draped in
regal purple ruffles.

Outfit complete
she stiffly sways in place.
Proud winds strut off

bearing her ripe grape perfume.
Bees come to do-si-do around
her yellow pollen boas.

She is finally,
properly,
present
and presented.

On her seventh day
she curtsies out,
leaving caramelized curls
behind her gray green fans.
