At the Table

— Nick Butterfield

Forks danced
though I brought nothing
to the table.
Knife separated
what we dreamed
from what we dreamt of.
Spoon for milk,
Was only to serve moon
in small portions.
For dessert, our dark eyes
sang songs that saved us
from a world we once thought
we were made of.
