Short Poems

— Nick Butterfield

Hiking in the rain
My dog slipping up a trail
Like chocolate cream pie
(By Athena Alexandrou)

Day 1

I’m sorry I wasn’t there
When the world began
That’s because I’ve been riding
A time machine.
Now, no longer a believer in time
I can start here
At the end
Not afraid of the dark.

New

Footsteps early in the morning
Floorboards creaking.
My breath steaming in the cold air
Under a compost of freshly cut hay,
Ready to be born again
Pitchfork in hand.
