Each month, a live poetry reading is hosted in Willow Glen, on the outskirts of San Jose, California. At each readings, a featured poet is followed by open-mic. These readings have been a staple of the Bay Area arts scene for almost a decade, retaining their vibrancy over a variety of venues and hosts.
If there has been any failing of the Willow Glen Poetry Readings, it has been the subtle sense of loss some of us share in hearing so many wonderful poems rush by and then disappear. It is the goal of the Willow Glen Poetry Project (WGPP) to remedy this, and preserve the ongoing poetry of this talented, extended community.
To this end, the WGPP will post a sample of the works from participating poets on this site, and will gather some of the best of the community’s poems into a print anthology on a periodic basis.
The Willow Glen Poetry Readings are held monthly:
Third Thursday of each month
Willow Glen Branch Library
1157 Minnesota Avenue
San Jose, CA 95125
See the Events pages for details.
The readings are hosted by Dennis and Christine Richardson:
- Christine is an award winning poet, a retired teacher, and our primary MC.
- Dennis is a retired math teacher who has more recently come to love the world of poetry.
Currently, the readings are partially sponsored by:
Poetry Center San Jose (PCSJ), the area’s premiere member-based poetry organization. PCSJ informs its membership of upcoming readings and provides a modest honorarium for the featured reader. For more information, visit www.pcsj.org
Arts Council Silicon Valley (ACSV), a private, nonprofit arts organization for Santa Clara County residents. ACSV contributes funding for PCSJ programs and sponsorships. For more information, visit www.artscouncil.org
Although the WGPP is not part of PCSJ or ACSV, we deeply appreciate PCSJ and ACSV and strongly encourage you to become members, enjoy the full range of their cultural and educational events, and participate with them to shape future programming and services.
